Decker, Mr. Robert

What is Technology?

Technology is a vast field. It encompasses all of our life. Without modern technologies our lives would be significantly altered. Students are introduced to five major areas of technology: Manufacturing, Transportation, Construction, Communication and Biotechnology. Manufacturing is the study of how products are designed, developed and produced. Transportation encompasses any means of moving items; be they data or packages. Communication is how ideas are transmitted, this could be radio broadcasting, advertising or drawings of products. Construction looks at how structures are built on site such as roads, schools or homes. Finally, Biotechnology looks at the use of living organisms to help humans. This is a very diverse field that includes genetics and medical technologies. At the Middle School students will have two Tech. Ed. courses. In Mr. Decker's class you will study Manufacturing and Transportation. In Mr. Ressel's class you will study Construction, Communication and Transportation.
